With strong academic and extracurricular support, students are encouraged to develop their knowledge, skills, and character, preparing them for future success.
1.3 Teaching System
SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta is an Islamic school where boys and girls have separate classes, but there are also mixed-gender classes. When I first entered the school, I was curious about their teaching system. I was amazed to see how active and disciplined the students were in class. They listened to their teachers, participated in discussions, and showed enthusiasm for learning. Pak Adi, the teacher assigned to guide us, gave us a tour of the school. I was impressed by how teachers used various teaching methods to help students understand their lessons effectively. Classes start at 7:30 AM, after the morning prayer, and end at 3:00 PM. After class, students can either join extracurricular activities or go home. Some students stay to practice for the upcoming sports meet, while others participate in different school activities.
One thing I noticed is that the school does not focus only on academics but also emphasizes character development. Teachers ensure that students learn discipline, respect, and responsibility alongside their subjects. During my observation from Monday to Friday, I was amazed by how talented the students were in creating different handicrafts as part of their subjects. The school follows a hands-on learning approach, allowing students to actively engage in activities rather than just listening to lectures. Teachers continuously guide and support students in their learning process. The school integrates both traditional and modern teaching strategies, combining textbooks with group activities, discussions, and technology to enhance student engagement.
Another aspect that stood out to me was the strong bond between teachers and students. The teachers are supportive and approachable, ensuring that students fully grasp the lessons and encouraging them to ask questions, think critically, and collaborate with their peers. The school provides a great learning environment where students can grow, develop their skills, and become responsible individuals. This is because Muliska’s teaching system prioritizes not only academic excellence but also practical learning, character formation, and student involvement. Teachers use diverse methods to help students discover and enhance their talents in various fields, including academics, arts, and sports. With this well-rounded approach, it is no surprise that Muliska has so many talented and skilled students across different disciplines.
