 February 3, 2025

Together with Jane Emerald Barrera and Mariela Compuesto, the CapSu Wonderers, we visited our cooperating school, SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta (Muliska), together with our buddy, Cavella, for an orientation. SMP stands for Sekolah Menengah Pertama. During the orientation, UMS students were also present; they are here for observation but only for two weeks.

We also met Pak Adi (Adi Purwono), who accompanies and guides us every day. He gave us a tour of the school campus and introduced us to the faculty. After the tour, he introduced us to our cooperating teacher. My cooperating teacher is Ms. Ichaa.


February 4, 2025

We had a discussion with Pak Adi Purwono about their culture, school, and teaching methods. I also met different students who were very friendly, and we had a conversation about the culture, food, and beliefs of the Philippines. I taught them some Filipino (Tagalog) words, and they loved listening to us. They were very attentive and eager to learn.

In the afternoon, we watched the students and their teachers as they made doormats from used clothes, and we took pictures together.


February 5, 2025

In the morning, the school held a short charity event or program, and we also had a chance to talk with the students. After that, we observed Pak Adi’s class.

In the afternoon, we had the opportunity to watch the students practice their Angklung performance, where they played various instruments made of bamboo. The music was beautiful.


February 6, 2025

We observed the 7A class of Pak Adi, and in the afternoon, we had a cross-cultural understanding session about the traditions, culture, heritage, food, and beliefs of the Philippines. We also wore the Philippine national costumes, Filipiniana and Barong.


February 7, 2025

We had another conversation with the students, as they were very interested in Philippine culture. It was my first time observing the class of my cooperating teacher, Bu Ichaa, with 7B class. The students were quite naughty, but I was happy that they cooperated with me. After the class, we took a photo together.


February 8, 2025

We went on a tour to Yogyakarta with our buddies Cavella, Amel, and Yahyah, and we met their friend, Rofi. We traveled by train. After that, we visited the Museum Sonobudoyo and Pasar Beringharjo Market.


February 9, 2025

We were invited to watch the Muliska Competition Week, where students showcased their talents and skills. We also had the opportunity to watch the Angklung performance again.


February 10, 2025

We attended the opening ceremony for sports and athletic in Surakarta at Stadiom Sriwedari. We also had a tour to Surakarta Palace, we explore the palace and its museum. Lastly, we visited the batik village and bought some batik clothes because it was cheap and take some aesthetic photos individually and together (with Pak Adi Purwono, the best teacher/tour guide).


February 11, 2025

Dinner with Dr. Prof. Harun (Vice President of UMS), Ibu Ratih, and Ibu Mauly, together with Aklan and the buddies. It's Aklan's farewell dinner.

Visit Mim Unggulan Suruhkalang (MIM SUKA), a private school, and teach students for 30 minutes, followed by a tour at Tawang Mangu. Enjoy sightseeing, explore local attractions, and take in the beautiful scenery (together with Aklan).


February 14, 2025

February 17-20, 2025

We had the chance to witness the students' skills in making various handicrafts.

We had the opportunity to see, meet, and take a photo with the President of UMS, Prof. Dr. Sofyan Anif.

February 25, 2025

We went to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Solo and Rasamadu Heritage in the morning, and in the evening, we had a farewell dinner together with Dr. Ratih, Dr. Mauly, and our buddy, Cavella.


February 26, 2025

We had our flight back to the Philippines.

    1.1  Purpose of Practicum Stepping into another country, learning about its cultures, traditions, and teaching experiences will always be one of the happiest moments of my life.   Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Nomer Jr Santiago Narciso, and I am a fourth-year education student at Capiz State University, Burias Campus. This blog is all about my journey as a SEA Teacher. Through this program, I have a chance to teach, learn, and grow in a new country. It’s an exciting experience where I get to meet amazing students, work with inspiring teachers, and explore a different way of teaching. My host university is Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), and my cooperating school is SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta (Muliska).
